Prue is intelligent, artistic, independent - and bored。 Pressurised by her mother to make a conventional and dull marriage, she is delighted to escape London and seek retreat with her eccentric and bohemian aunt in Cornwall。 A chance encounter with an attractive young artist on the sea shore leads to day after idyllic summer's day of exploring the Cornish countryside and coast。 But there is something troubling Daniel and Prue, now deeply entangled, feels compelled to discover what it is。。。

Not one the best by Rosamunde Pilcher but still an enjoyable read。

CharmingA very charming little book, lacking the depth of her larger novels, but the lovely Cornwall makes a nice setting for this romantic story。

I love Rosalind Pilcher! Wonderful storyteller! When an older friend breaks her arm, 23 year old Prue is quite happy to leave her home and her overbearing mother to go and stay with free spirit artist friend Phoebe during her recovery time。 While on the train ride there she meets a 10 year old girl who is traveling to the same town to stay with her grandmother while her boarding school is being repaired。 The story of friendship between three generations and how each finds love and happiness。 Grea I love Rosalind Pilcher!

Quintessential PilcherIf you like Rosamunde Pilcher, you will like this。 Cornwall, flowers, paintings, painters and a happy ending。 What’s not to like?

I needed a light, enjoyable read, and The Carousel provided exactly that。 I love books set in the English countryside and had forgotten how well Pilcher sets the scene。 Her characters all always well drawn, and her books flow with ease。The storyline is a bit predictable, but in a nice way。 You want things to turn out the way they do, so one can read stress free and just settle in for the ride。

A sweet little romance that’s perfect reading for a rainy afternoon, stormy night, or soft spring day in a garden。

Few things are so ideal to restore your inner balance after a hard day than Rosamund Pilcher's books。 This optimism, the gentle romance, the relaxing descriptions of nature and in general all this world of her are the ideal elements that one can look for in these conditions and their positive effect on me is something stable。 Of course, there is nothing different from her other books, which of course can be described as negative but, on the other hand, this absence of surprise works just as rela Few things are so ideal to restore your inner balance after a hard day than Rosamund Pilcher's books。 This optimism, the gentle romance, the relaxing descriptions of nature and in general all this world of her are the ideal elements that one can look for in these conditions and their positive effect on me is something stable。 Of course, there is nothing different from her other books, which of course can be described as negative but, on the other hand, this absence of surprise works just as relaxing as the reader knows what he will encounter。 So here we have a story in beautiful Cornwall, with a young woman looking for her way, a man who has lost it and a neglected girl, all under the roof of a wise middle-aged woman and faced with the consequences of the actions of selfish and immature people。 In this bubble of love and understanding, everything can be done, the tears can dry, true love can bloom, solid solutions can be found and, of course, the reader can find refuge for a few hours。 However, in the case of this book, the hours are really few and that is something negative but I have the feeling that all these nice things are given in an ideally condensed way that actually enhances the book and makes it more enjoyable。 That's why I could not avoid the rating you see。 。。。more

Predictable, but kept my attention。 It's been a lot of years since one of Pilcher's books has crossed my path。 This one showed up in my Little Free Library。 A good book for pandemic-times。 Predictable, but kept my attention。 It's been a lot of years since one of Pilcher's books has crossed my path。 This one showed up in my Little Free Library。 A good book for pandemic-times。 。。。more

I had high hopes for this one but it was fairly predictable: young woman at a crossroads in her life, she has a "found" family that lives an artsy dream in Cornwall, the bad characters are bad, the good characters are angelic, and the children are above average in need of someone who cares。I know it is a product of its time but the handwringing became tedious and I started to skim。 I do really love how Pilcher can make the Cornish landscape come to life。Clean。 I had high hopes for this one but it was fairly predictable: young woman at a crossroads in her life, she has a "found" family that lives an artsy dream in Cornwall, the bad characters are bad, the good characters are angelic, and the children are above average in need of someone who cares。I know it is a product of its time but the handwringing became tedious and I started to skim。 I do really love how Pilcher can make the Cornish landscape come to life。Clean。 。。。more

Not her best I have loved a lot of her other books, especially the shell seekers, but this one is just too abrupt, more of a short story。 It is definitely your happy ever after story but painfully obvious right from the beginning。

I don't know why, but I love Rosamunde Pilcher so much。 I don't think I'm really the target audience, but I still like the world she creates。 The Carousel is a straight-forward story, and even tho I was one step ahead of the narrator the entire time, I really enjoyed it。 I don't know why, but I love Rosamunde Pilcher so much。 I don't think I'm really the target audience, but I still like the world she creates。 The Carousel is a straight-forward story, and even tho I was one step ahead of the narrator the entire time, I really enjoyed it。 。。。more

This was definitely Pilcher light。 Barely a novella, it was predictable and far-fetched。 But I still have never read a bad Pilcher。 Provided a nice interlude。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A pleasant enough short novel but not exactly gripping and I don't like the repeated theme of women suppressing and denying their own talents to support the great man。 The ending is a bit of a leap isn't it? I could see Daniel asking Prue to spend a summer in Greece with him but to propose on the strength of a picnic and an uncomfortable lager seems a bit outlandish to me。 Sounded like he wanted a cheap nanny lined up。 A pleasant enough short novel but not exactly gripping and I don't like the repeated theme of women suppressing and denying their own talents to support the great man。 The ending is a bit of a leap isn't it? 。。。more
